I no longer call myself a "believer" anymore, I am a seeker. It's been a minute since I was here in this space, and I wanted to share where I've been and what I've been keeping close to my chest. She's a Kentucky native and phenomenal Artist! She's from Lexington, KY and her store front and studio are in Nicholasville, KY. On today's show, we're sitting down with Kayla Weber. I am so grateful that she was willing to sit down with me to speak about their journey and to give us a peek into what this journey has looked like for her and for her family.

She takes us behind the scenes of what it looked like to hear of the initial diagnosis of her eldest all the way through to the birth of her youngest. Her oldest daughter, Evelyn, is an individual who has down syndrome, her middle daughter, Sophia a fully typically developing child, and her youngest son, Frank, has a disability that will be his own to talk about one day. Burial will take place following the service at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 455 Hollywood Rd., Fairview, NC, 28730. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home, 125 South Ave., Swannanoa, NC 28778 conducted by Pastor Johnny Prettyman. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Todd (Kim) Hill of Fairview two daughters, Sandy (Winfred) Whitaker and Toni (David) Runion, both of Fairview 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Alvoyd Hill two daughters, Joyce Gibson and Carole Harvey a brother, Gene Wilburn and a sister, Ann Robinson. She was also an avid reader and you could always find her curled up with a good book. She was known to take them to swimming lessons, the skating rink, and off to Old Fort to listen to Blue Grass Mountain Music. She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother and loved doing fun activities with the children. Evelyn was very devoted to her family, and she loved them deeply. She loved being a caregiver and she and her husband were foster parents to several area children over the years. She was a great cook and known for her delicious “Chow Chow”. At one time, Evelyn and her father owned Finer Carolina Rugs. Evelyn attended Spring Mountain Baptist Church in Fairview and she worked as a private duty nurse and was retired. She was born on June 11, 1930, to the late John Marion Wilburn and Kate Dotson Wilburn. Obituary Evelyn Wilburn Hill, age 92, of Fairview, NC, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Fleshers of Fairview.
